Sardinia, an Italian island in the heart of the Mediterranean, is a paradise for boating enthusiasts. With its beautiful beaches, clear waters and stunning coastal landscapes, it is perfect for a getaway.
As the second-largest island in the Mediterranean, Sardinia offers an abundance of beautiful destinations waiting for you. A boat rental without license in Sardinia is a great way to explore this beautiful region of Italy. It’s the easiest way to escape the crowds of tourists. Just hire a boat to cruise along the coast and discover hidden coves where you can swim, snorkel or enjoy a relaxing holiday.
A boat rental in Sardinia allows you to uncover hidden gems at your own pace, and tailor your trip to your interests.
There are different types of boats you can rent without having your own license.
Most boats on the platform have the option to be hired with a skipper. This means that whether you don’t have a license, or don’t have the right one, you can still rent any boat on the platform. This can be a sailboat, a motor yacht, a RIB, or a motorboat.
If you would rather not have a skipper, there is a variety of boats available for you to rent. Most motorboats with engines of less than 40hp are available to rent without license. On our platform, these are mostly RIBs, but you’ll find some motorboats.
Choose the type of boat most adapted to your needs, knowing RIBs are often more adapted to day trips. If you are looking to organize a longer trip, whether a couple of days, a week, or more, taking a look at skippered boat options could be a good idea.
Prices for a boat rental in Sardinia are influenced by a number of factors: the type of boat, the duration of the rental, the size of the boat, the marina you are renting from, and any extras available to add on to your booking. Extras can include snorkeling equipment, SUPs, watersports equipment, surf boards…
Additionally, the season also plays a significant part in the price of a rental. Summer usually corresponds to the high season, so prices will be higher at that time of the year.
Renting a boat that does not require a license in Sardinia costs an average of €248 per day. The daily rental price can vary between €140 and €684.
The Costa Smeralda is a 20km long stretch of coastline reputed for its luxurious resorts and stunning beaches and caves. Its best beaches include Capriccioli, Liscia Ruja, and Spiaggia del Principe. Discover Capo Testa, Porto Cervo, or Capo Ferro and its lighthouse. If you’re a fan of wind and kite surfing, head to Porto Pollo beach.
The Maddalena archipelago is known for its diverse wildlife and pristine beaches. A lot of the islands are protected natural parks, and are uninhabited. If you’re a keen diver or snorkeling fan, it’s worth taking a few days to sail around the archipelago.
The Asinara National Park is a protected area in northwest Sardinia, known for its wildlife, beautiful coastline, and blue-green waters. The area is home to a large variety of fauna and flora, including white donkeys. You’ll find several delightful beaches dotted around the park, in particular Cala Reale and Cala d’Olivia.
For a mix of history, culture and natural beauty, head to Alghero, a charming town on the northwest coast of Sardinia. Stroll through the cobbled old town, and admire the Catalan Gothic buildings, visit Neptune’s Grotto and relax on Le Bombarde and Maria Pia beaches.
The Cagliari Gulf is ideal to combine city expiration with coastal delights. Cruise along the gulf’s shores and take in the views of the city. Visit Cagliari, Sardinia’s colorful capital. Landmarks include its medieval walls, the 13th Century cathedral and the National Archeological Museum.
Discover Cala Goloritzè near Baunei in the south of Sardinia, a breathtaking cove of turquoise waters. It's recognizable by the towering limestone pinnacle jutting out of the verdant cliffs behind. It’s an excellent location for snorkeling and swimming. Arriving by boat is the best way to appreciate the striking beauty of this place.
Just over 23 nautical miles away from northern Sardinia, over on the other side of the Bonifacio Straight, is Bonifacio and southern Corsica. From there, you can sail around the stunning French island. The dramatic coastline of Corsica is best seen from the water, so arriving by boat after a good day of sailing is sure to provide unforgettable memories.
Sardinia boasts a Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot and dry, and the best season for sailing is from May to September. Temperatures average between 25°C and 30°C at that time of year, and wind speeds vary between 8 and 20 knots on average.
In terms of prices, however, summer is the high season, so a boat hire in Sardinia at that time will be more expensive due to the higher demand.
The maximum capacity of boats without license in Sardinia is 12 people. There are of course smaller boats, that can accommodate groups of less than 6 people, for example. If you have a larger group, consider looking at skippered boats. You’ll find boats in Sardinia that can accommodate more than 100 people. All of these have a skipper available to hire alongside the boat. The average price to hire a skipper for a day in Sardinia is €184.
